Another question on DAFO's

It seems like all of us new DAFO mom's have questions lately! I just am wondering from you seasoned DAFO mom's what you do during the summer. I am attempting to get a list going and some stuff bought for Josh and have been trying to figure out what to do. Josh will probably only need his DAFO's until the end of the summer (knock on wood) but we still have the hot part of the year to go through. So do you use sneakers all year, or something cooler during the summer. I know that every night when I take Josh's DAFO's off, his feet are sooo sweaty and hot. I can't imagine how bad this will be during 95* weather. So what are some things you have done? Do sandels work, or do you stick with shoes? Any other advice you have would be greatly appreciated!

I buy thin "school uniform" socks (the ones with all the holey patterns), and then in the summer I get a pair of velcro-up sandals since they are still able to close over the tops of my daughters braces.

A lot of the shoes on this site come not only in wide sizes, but also extra wide sizes, so you should be able to find a good pair of nice airy sandals that will still fit over the afos.

I got an e-mail from the cascade company (DAFO company) they have 'cool max' socks that are seamless and wick moisture away from the skin. They can still get warm though. Their suggestion was to drill a few extra holes in your DAFOS for ventilation.
I also have used velcro sandals. They work well over DAFOS too. You just have to try them on to make sure that the particular style or pair will fit. I've also heard lots of people say that crocs work well over dafos, though I've never been able to get them to work myself.

WalMart has some Teva-like sandals for $9.00. Crocs work really great for us! We just got some of both kind for Bree. I like the 'soccer socks' I get them online. I have heard Old Navy has them but I have not gone out to look. I will let you know if I find anything else this that works well for us!

We just use the Crocs. I don't worry much about the socks;)
