Swing or Hammock

I looked for a picture to post, but didn't have enough time to find one... but I am wondering if any of you know of how I can get one of those swings or hammocks that you can hang from your ceiling? Josh LOVES movement and since our basement is not finished yet, I want to look for something to hang up that is safe. I know there are some especially for therapy reasons, and since we end up paying out of pocket for everything, I wanted to get something cheaper. It just has to provide the movement he seems to need so much. He was in a baby swing until he was 17 months since he is small enough to fit. He was happy as can be to sit and swing all day. But he is finally too big.

If you know of any websites or anything that you have come across that may have something like that... please let me know. You can leave it in the comments or even e-mail me.

Thanks! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!

I know Anita Nap has one for Marshall, and he loves it. She could give you some great info on it. If she doesn't respond to this post, send her an email about it. Good luck!

We found one at IKEA for the very purpose you mentioned.

In the summer we got a $5 camping hammock from Walmart to take to the family cabin. We just tied both ends together over one of the rafters. MK loved it! It worked just fine, but with all the netting kids can get tangled up in it a little - if they are trying to get in and out themselves. Otherwise, it was great! Good Luck!

Happy is right. I do have one for Marshall and he has LOVED it. He still gets excited when I bring it out. I only wish I had an unfinished basement to put it up in so he could have more room to swing.

Here's what I think you should do. I can't afford the swing but I got a grant for it. Go to http://www.challengedamerica.com and click on the part that says "Tell us your story". Check out the swing on Southpaw Enterprises website: http://www.southpawenterprises.com/Airwalker-P158.aspx

You fill out the grant application, telling them why your son needs the swing and if the board decides to give the grant to you, they will buy the swing for you directly from Southpaw and have it sent to you.

Good luck. I hope you get it! The swing is absolutely wonderful and you have a $500 limit so you could get the hardware on Southpaw's website too. Just add that into the total. Email me if you have any other questions. I have a video of him in his Airwalker Swing. I'll have to see if I posted it on here or not.

I was going to suggest what tiptoe mama did. Just get a hammock with it's own frame. I have seen them and Walmart and Target but I could not tell you how much they were. I am not sure if that will work or not. I will keep a look out for anything good!

If you can't get the grant for the Airwalker swing, I'd go for a swing at IKEA that you can suspend from the ceiling.
