Good News

Bree Anne got her first DAFO last Thursday. She took to it so well, and is walking all over the place. Our only problem is going to be teaching her that she has to take it slow or she is gonna be sore!
My former high school caught wind of Bree's condition and has decided to do a fund raiser on her behalf. It is very touching! Now we can get her into some really neat sign language classes, (we have just been using the Singing Time DVDs) and possibly find a preschool that can work with her special needs. Please send me any and all information you have on preschools or classes that could possibly benefit her!

Well, the DAFO sounds like a good thing. I've never heard the term before, and I'd be interested to know more about it. Is it like a brace or something that helps her walk? I'm glad she took to it and is getting around. That is SO COOL about your old high school doing a fund raiser. It's neat how much help is out there and how much people are willing to help us if we will just be humble enough to accept it. My husband has never been one to accept help--he thinks he can do everything himself. But it is good for us sometimes to not worry about it and let other people take care of it. Let us know what they do for their fundraiser!

HOORAY!!! I'm so glad she likes her DAFOS. I don't remember exactly what dafo stands for..something foot orthotic I think...basically they are leg/foot braces. Kind of the plastic updated version of the things Forrest Gump wore. M.K. is on her second pair. Her first pair lasted about a year even though the therapists told us she would probably grow out of them in 6 months. What colors did you choose?

I would love to hear about the fundraiser too. We got help from the Elks Association to pay for M.K.'s wheelchair. It is hard and humbling to get help, but what a blessing it is as well.

Hooray for good news! I'm glad to hear about the fundraiser. We LOVE Signing Time DVDs. They are so entertaining. I love the music. I've been a huge fan of ASL for years though. Who knows, someday I may need to use it to communicate. :)

I don't really have any ideas on Pre-schools and stuff because Marshall just goes to the one at the Elementary School here.

S0rry, that was me. I'm listening to a beautiful song and got distracted. "I Need Thee Every Hour" is one of my favorites. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir sings it so beautifully.

Okay here is some information. I live up in ogden so this is the information that I know of that my son was in. It is with the school system and is called early intervention and they take care of kids with special need I love it. It has helped my son with his speech delay, and signing. Their number is (801)476-5460 If you don't live in Weber county they should have a number so ones in other county's. I know that their is one in Davis county but sure of the number. My son goes to West Haven Elem. in a special ed preschool. I heard about it from early intervention. The guy up here is name is Orvil Stokes. I also know that there are classes at Roy and I think up in Bonneville.(not to sure about this one).
Hope that is will get you in the right direction.
